Vritti Samskara Cycle

Intentional Living and Yoga

Your actions speak louder than words. But where did they begin?

As Gandhi reminded us, your thoughts become your words, your words become your behavior, your behavior becomes your habits, your habits become your values, and your values become your destiny.

Every action you take, whether doing or non-doing, has an impact. Choose your actions wisely, they create your life.

Yoga practice is a tool that helps us bring our unconscious to the surface so we can redefine our destinies and ultimately find peace of mind.

Yoga philosophy calls the unconscious impressions we act upon samskaras, and the activies, whether thoughts or behaviours that come from impressions, vrittis. The Vritti-Samskara cycle is key to understanding how yoga practice works. This cycle operates continuously from birth to death in all of us. It is usually without our awareness or control.

Yoga practices, through the body, breath, and mind, give us the tools to develop self-awareness. As we develop insight we can move away from our unconscious patterns and habits, and consciously choose how we move through our lives. Intentional living brings us into alignment with ourselves, a place where we can cultivate what brings us joy, happiness and peace of mind.
